ASPACE Mentoring Vision Statement

ASPACE Mentoring is our mentoring programme at AIMCommunity which incorporates both 1:1 and small group work. The aim of ASPACE Mentoring is to support young people within AIMCommunity’s framework of ‘HOPE. HOME. WHOLE’.

Hope vs Nope

ASPACE Mentoring aims to create HOPE for young people through fostering an environment of empathy, and acceptance. ASPACE Mentoring will help young people to build self-esteem and confidence and to support young people to aim higher in their lives through goal setting and creative and personal achievements.

Home vs Alone

ASPACE Mentoring nurtures an atmosphere of acceptance and safety through role-modelling mentors that young people can confide in. We aim to create a positive HOME for young people to flourish in their chosen endeavor, whether creative, vocational or educational.

Whole vs Hole

ASPACE Mentoring uses a holistic approach to be attuned to the needs and abilities of young people, supporting their development as a WHOLE. Young people will engage in their local communities and form positive relationships with those that they spend time with.

ASPACE Mentoring is equipped with mentors with a range of skills, abilities and experience. Expertise includes the areas of performing arts, life skills, goal setting, and preparation for adult life.

ASPACE Outcomes

Aa_edited.png

Young people have the opportunity to develop their current abilities and to learn new skills. These skills can be in the form of a creative outlet, such as film making, music performance and music production, dance and movement, drama and acting, art and animation.

Young people growing self awareness of their achievements and milestones play a major role in the practical building of self esteem and confidence. Young people are matched with mentors with relevant skills and knowledge who support them in achieving a range of both short term and long term goals. Small tasks are turned into big successes with small steps towards a greater outcome. Young people who are anxious or concerned with challenges in everyday life are able to remove the barriers that enable them to access and engage in the community.

ASPACE Mentoring intentionally fosters an environment that can help young people to positively interact with their peers, whether in a school/education setting, in the community or in common interest groups.

One of the primary roles of ASPACE Mentors, and a main element in building improved relationships, is to support young people to understand the many different communication styles and methods, such as verbal, non verbal, passive, assertive and aggressive, and develop skills enabling young people to communicate well with others. Learning about how young people receive and send communication can enable development in many aspects of life. Communicating effectively with others can substantially increase achievement in life whether it is their chosen vocation, education or relationships.

ASPACE Mentoring works towards supporting the relationships between young people and the significant adults in their life, as well as supporting young people to interact with others their own age and stage in life, ASPACE Mentoring helps young people create personalised ‘tool kits’ to help adults understand their needs, support, methods of communication, hopes and dreams.

ASPACE Mentoring supports young people that may have had difficult or negative experiences within education, and looks to encourage an intentional, early intervention within mainstream schools. Such intervention focuses on; building resilience and skills to further their journey towards their desired vocation, improving their academic attendance by addressing barriers to attendance, increased engagement through informal learning and addressing behavioural issues, working towards higher academic attainment through tutoring in core subjects and creative opportunities, mentoring towards personal development, andworking alongside families to build approaches to support their child through workshops, group discussions and support networks.

Volunteering Roles

Funding Team

As we are a charity, we are always looking for funding in the form of grants and donations. We are looking for volunteers that are happy to help write applications for funding and to help raise funds to subsidise the costs for service users. People who have experience with finding bid writing, or are enthusiastic to work alongside our current staff to help shape our applications, we would be happy to have you volunteer for us.

Mentoring Team

Delivering face to face mentoring for young people between the ages of 8 - 18 is an integral part of ASPACE Mentoring. Working with young people both in a group setting  and 1:1 work  makes a big difference to the community that we are serving. Volunteers that are interested in supporting young people's development in the ASPACE areas are welcome.

Transportation Team

ASPACE Mentoring works with young people across the BCP and Dorset area. We are looking for volunteers that are happy to drive our AIMCommunity vehicle to pick up and drop off young people. We are also looking for volunteers to transport small groups to events and trips that ASPACE organises. If you are 25+ and have a valid driving license, this could be a role for you.

Event Planning Team

Throughout the year, ASPACE Mentoring organises events for young people, parents, carers, guardians, family members and referrers can attend. These events are designed to showcase young people and their skills, stories and reflections during their time at ASPACE. We are looking for volunteers to help plan, deliver and evaluate events for ASPACE so that the young people have a platform to share their experiences.

Spreading the Word Team

We always need people to spread the word of the work that ASPACE and AIMCommunity are currently doing. If you would like to be an advocate or ambassador for ASPACE and tell others about the provision that we can deliver, that would be a great way to volunteer for us.
